The requalification project for the Nordeste Primary School and Kindergarten Public Garden stems from the desire to return the landscape to the community, transforming it into a place of gathering and permeability. We sought to dissolve the once opaque boundaries of the premises, replacing them with rhythmic wooden fencing. This gesture opens the space to sight and light, allowing the garden to engage in an open dialogue with the surrounding urban fabric.

At the heart of this intervention lies a deep commitment to inclusivity and safety. A new, continuous, and organic pedestrian path gently meanders through the topography to connect the adjacent streets, creating serene resting areas along the way. Alongside this landscape sensitivity, we addressed the demands of the school’s daily routine: we widened the sidewalks using traditional basalt cobblestone, organized the parking bays, and designed a new square for buses. Here, a shelter platform in exposed concrete and wood rises, conceived as a safe haven on rainy days.

The project seeks a poetic balance between the contemporaneity of its forms and the sobriety of the local architecture. The result is a versatile public space, sincere in its materiality—a true invitation to linger, where the urban design acts as a tranquil backdrop to celebrate socializing and outdoor sharing.
